We are fundamentally reimagining what Search can do with AI. As user curiosity evolves from simple keywords into complex, hyper-specific queries, combining your strategic insights with the best of AI unlocks growth opportunities that were previously out of your reach. To help you win these new consumer moments while maintaining predictable performance, we are launching three new updates:

  • Expanded Smart Bidding Exploration to capture diverse, conversion-friendly traffic
  • Promotion mode to easily layer in your seasonal marketing strategies
  • Updated bidding target optimizations to scale your campaigns smoothly

Capture more unique traffic

Building a continuous growth engine starts with discovery. Before you can scale your business, you need to uncover new pools of demand. That’s where Smart Bidding Exploration comes in. By setting a ROAS tolerance, this feature allows you to reach new, converting users from unexpected queries that you aren’t currently winning—all without altering your core campaign targeting. Campaigns using Smart Bidding Exploration see on average a +18% increase in unique search query categories with conversions, and a +19% increase in conversions1. We are expanding Smart Bidding Exploration to all Performance Max campaigns without a product feed, giving your Performance Max campaigns the same ability to capture new unique users.

For those of you who want the benefits of exploration in more areas than text ads, we’ve also opened up the Smart Bidding Exploration beta for Shopping ads on both Performance Max campaigns with a product feed and Shopping campaigns.

Maximize your performance and ability to capture opportunities during peak periods

Uncovering new pools of demand is the crucial first step, but you also need the tactical agility to fully capitalize on those opportunities when market demand intensifies. We’re launching promotion mode in beta to help you capture more queries and conversions during demand spikes. This feature lets you schedule temporary changes to your ROAS tolerance and add extra daily budget during peaking periods, helping you maximize performance during seasonal events, flash sales, product launches, and more. In addition to being compatible with daily budgets, promotion mode’s ROAS tolerance adjustment can also be combined with campaign total budgets, letting you both accelerate your performance and manage your budget during key moments.

Promo Mode in campion setting

Promotion mode lets you set temporary changes to your ROAS tolerance and add extra daily budget during peak periods. This beta is available for Search and Performance Max campaigns.

Get more consistent and predictable performance all year long

Scaling your business isn’t just about capturing demand during seasonal sprints. True growth and sustainable scaling require day-to-day predictability.

Starting August 17, and rolling out over a few weeks, we’re updating bidding target optimization to help campaigns limited by budget deliver more predictable performance in line with your bidding targets, especially as you scale your campaign. To prepare for any potential changes in performance, you may need to adjust your campaigns’ CPA or ROAS targets to make sure they reflect your business goals. If your campaigns need adjustments or you need additional guidance, you will see notifications in Google Ads starting July 6 where you can review historical campaign performance and quickly apply updates.

Explore these new bidding upgrades in your account to unlock your next wave of growth and maximize your marketing ROI. If you’re interested in either the beta for promotion mode or Smart Bidding Exploration on Shopping and Performance Max campaigns with product feeds, reach out to your account team.
