Shoulder Bridge: A Simple Exercise for Back Pain & Posture

If you spend long hours sitting or struggle with lower back discomfort or poor posture, one of the most effective movements is also one of the simplest.

Shoulder Bridge (Setu Bandhasana) is used in both yoga and Pilates to support spinal mobility, core strength and back health.

When practised slowly and with awareness, it can:
• support the lower back by strengthening hips and pelvis
• improve posture and spinal alignment
• increase mobility through the spine
• gently open tight hips
• support nervous system regulation.

This is why it’s often included in Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga and Pilates classes, especially for those returning to movement or managing stiffness.

It can be particularly helpful if you:
• sit at a desk or drive regularly
• experience mild back pain or tension
• want to improve posture and stability.

The key is not height or effort — but slow, controlled movement and awareness.
