This was a mystery leak other roofers completely missed, it takes a respect for the physics of water and the materials we use. The frame work supporting the old Chimneys rear lead box gutter was sitting proud and pushing up on the breathable membrane between two rafters either side of where the Chimney was. This connection was causing osmosis and the transfer of moisture from the membrane to the touching timber. Water then saturate the timber and by extension transfers to the ceiling directly below which has become stained. The original felt was cut to access and remove the protruding timber relieving the felt of the protruding timber allowing the felt to air dry as it was designed without touching anything but the rafters it is secured to.
