Remedial Works to Non Compliant Wastewater Treatment Installation in Somerset
West Country Drainage Services Ltd are currently carrying out remedial works to a recently installed wastewater treatment system following identification of multiple design and installation failures.
The original installation was completed to an incorrect specification, resulting in:
• A failing and undersized drainage field
• Groundwater infiltration into the treatment tank, adversely affecting treatment efficiency and hydraulic performance
Following a full site investigation, we undertook percolation testing and produced a site specific drainage field design compliant with:
• Building Regulations Part H
• Environment Agency General Binding Rules
The scope of remedial works includes:
✔️ Installation of a new drainage field correctly sized and laid out based on percolation test results and soil conditions
✔️ Internal fibreglass lining of the treatment tank to prevent groundwater ingress, improve watertightness, and extend service life
✔️ Reinstatement of the system to ensure compliant discharge, correct hydraulic loading, and long term operational reliability
This project highlights the importance of correct site assessment, compliant design, and competent installation in ensuring wastewater treatment systems function as intended.
Our client has obtained some funds back but this is still an expensive process and unesscesary stress.
