Adrenal Fatigue Test
Do your eyes water when you go out into bright sunlight, do you find yourself heading for the door when social gatherings start to get loud, or maybe you can’t tolerate crowds? Aversion to stimulations like these are indicators of adrenal fatigue.
In the clinic we do a penlight test like the video above to see if the small muscles contracting the pupils can stay constricted when light is introduced at the side of the eye, or if these muscles tire easily and the pupil starts dilating. We also perform the Ragland’s test where blood pressure is taken lying down, and then immediately upon sitting or standing up. If the systolic pressure (upper number) doesn’t rise 10 mm upon rising, it indicates adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal fatigue can cause extreme fatigue as well as sensitivity to light, noise, smells, even being touched.
At Wellness Acupuncture & Herbs, we offer a treatment we’ve nick-named “The Beach Treatment” because it’s so effective at calming the nervous system that patients say it makes them feel like they’re on the beach sipping an umbrella drink. This treatment both calms the nervous system, and the overactive stress response, and it allows the overworked adrenals to rest. When combined with rejuvenating herbal formulas, our patients get the resources they need to support their adrenal health and restore their energy.
