Wet wood and green wood (fresh cut wood containing moisture) will burn cooler. These cooler-burning fires produce more smoke, which in turn will produce more of that nasty byproduct, creosote. A substantial buildup of creosote can cause issues such as foul odors emitting back into the home and chimney fires.
