Washer Door Popped Open? The Real Cause Was Hiding in the Foam.
We were called to check an LG front-loader that suddenly opened its door mid-cycle and flooded the laundry area. No broken parts - just lots of foam and a strange humming noise before it happened.
What we found: nothing mechanically wrong. Drain pump, valves, door lock, sensors and all tested fine. The real issue was too much detergent.
A single pod in a quick cycle with light laundry created heavy foam. That foam blocked the internal air system and clogged the drain path. The machine tried to drain, but the pump ended up spinning against foam and air - that’s the “buzzing” or “humming” sound the customer heard.
With pressure rising and nowhere for water to go, the washer’s safety system disengaged the door lock to prevent damage. It sounded dramatic — but it actually did its job.
✅ No parts replaced
✅ Cleaned the filter, ran full test — all good
✅ Advised customer to avoid pods for small loads and test a few cycles with no soap
If your washer gets loud, foamy, and throws odd codes like nF or D:E2, give us a call before it floods the floor.
