When caring for others it’s essential to take time to care for yourself.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try implementing one of these self-care tips for caregivers:
⏸️ Pause and focus on your breath.
Taking deep breaths helps to combat stress by slowing down our heart rate and decreasing feelings of anxiety. Next time you’re feeling stressed, concentrate on slowing down your inhales and exhales for 5 minutes and notice how you feel after.
🥬 Eat nutritious meals and get enough rest.
Take inventory of whether you’re eating enough and if you’re getting enough sleep. Getting adequate nutrition and rest can boost your mood and improve your energy levels. Meal prepping a week or a few days in advance can help save time and energy cooking during workdays.
♥️ Be kind to yourself.
Our caregivers are some of the most compassionate and kind people we know! The kindness we show others is the same kindness that we can have for ourselves. Being kind to yourself can look differently day to day. It can include listening to positive affirmations, not taking on too much, accepting help from others and reflecting on our accomplishments.
🤗 Connect with other caregivers for support.
Community support can help you realize that you’re not alone! Support groups can provide helpful resources on both taking care of yourself and others during difficult days.
