I purchased my house two years ago and have had issues with the sewer backing up over and over. I had different companies come out and snake the drains and one company even replaced a section of the sewer pipe in the yard but the sewer continued to back up and none of the companies could tell me what the issue was. Then I began smelling sewer gases in my house and still could not get any answers, we even had some one camera the line and still no answers. My house was built in 1978 and the sewer line is in the concrete slab, one company had suggested it might be a cast iron pipe and that might need to be replaced. I was unable to find a company in Cortez that could do the entire job from start to finish, most said I would need to find a company to bust out the concrete then they could come and do the pipes and then another company would need to come and replace the concrete. I really didn't want to have to go through the concrete so I began researching alternatives and came across VIP plumbing on Google. I called and spoke to the owner, James regarding pipe liners. James was extremely knowledgeable and explained in detail all of my possible options and the process for all of the options.
They came out to Cortez from Durango to camera the line and gave me several quotes based on my different options. It turns out that it was a cast iron pipe and we could have tried to do a liner but as James explained, the pipes have to be cleaned out before a liner can be inserted and it's not uncommon for those old cast iron sewer lines to crumble and you end up digging up the concrete anyway and the cost is close to the same for either. So we opted to go through the concrete slab and have the entire cast iron pipe replaced.
This was a huge project with all of the tie ins for the entire house, and difficult tie ins due to grade and sloping issues, but James and his crew at VIP plumbing were able to do the entire job from start to finish including the concrete work in 5 days. We had planned for a solid week, possibly part of the following week and we were warned that it was going to be extremely messy.
We moved everything out of the rooms that they were going to be working in and had everything in the downstairs living room. On their first day here they were already going above and beyond by covering everything in the living room with plastic, including the drapes and taped both sides of both doors, they brought in air cleaners as well. James again went over the project details and the plan and kept me in the loop every step of the project. The entire VIP crew was very professional and knowledgeable. As mentioned it only took them 5 days to be completely finished and we were only without water and the sewer drain for less than 24 hours. One of the rooms they had to bust up the concrete in was an old outdated bathroom and they again went above and beyond and were able to relocate and put in new shower and toilet drains, as well as put in new plumbing for the vanity and shower, they did this at no extra cost above the original bid.
There ended up being no mess at all in the living room due to all of the precautions that they took, and they did a very good job of cleaning up all the dirt and concrete in the rooms they were working in. The broken pipes had been leaking for quite some time so the crew also did their best to dig out as much of the saturated, smelly dirt as they could and replaced it with clean dirt before they poured the new concrete. The warranty they gave on their work is long, which sets my mind at ease.
The office staff at VIP is also very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are easy to get a hold of.
I highly recommend VIP plumbing for any plumbing issues and will be calling them for my future projects and plumbing needs.
