I rang on Sunday morning, my dog was (is) very unwell, not eating, barely drinking, incontinent and unable to walk even with support. She is very elderly and has a history of uti's and having tested her urine I knew that that was what the problem was. She weighs 40 kg. I explained I couldn't physically get her to the practice, she was too unwell and too heavy. She is actually with the practice Vets now are based at, so I asked them to access her medical history, they said they weren't able to. I asked if I could bring her urine sample in so they could check it and prescribe antibiotics. They refused saying she had to come in. I asked for a home visit, they said they don't do home visits because they don't have enough staff.
They appeared more concerned about explaining their costs and requesting i.d, insurance etc than about an animal who was suffering.
I gave up.
I would like to know why vets now are unable to access the medical notes of an animal who is with the practice they are based at?
I would like to know why given the vast amount they charge they are short staffed?
I would like to know what people who are unable to get their animal to the surgery in an emergency are supposed to do?
