When 9-year-old Whippet, Boo, suddenly developed severe bloody diarrhoea caused by Acute Haemorrhagic Diarrhoea Syndrome (AHDS), her owner Yasmin rushed her to our Vets Now Swansea clinic after her local vets closed at 5pm.
Boo arrived minimally responsive, losing large volumes of blood, with a heart rate of 210 and dangerously low blood pressure.
"She was in hypovolemic shock, every second counted", says our Principal Vet Lorna Joseph. "It was fluids, fluids, fluids to keep her alive."
After six hours of intensive care, Boo began to stabilise and, remarkably, by the next morning she was able to walk back to the car.
Yasmin says: "I honestly thought I was saying goodbye. They never gave up on Boo, and they brought her back to us."
