Earlier today we were called out to a domestic property in the Wakefield area after the homeowner reported hearing rat activity within a recent home extension.
Following a detailed inspection and the lifting of multiple manhole covers, we established that the rats were emerging from redundant drainage lines, tunnelling out of the system and tracking around beneath the foundations of the extension before gaining access internally.
This is a very common issue with extensions where:
โขOld or redundant drainage lines have not been correctly capped
โขUnderground defects remain unseen
โขRats use the pipework as a protected highway beneath the property
Once rats are established under foundations, the problem will not resolve itself without identifying and eliminating the source.
