This afternoon we attended a property on behalf of one of our estate agency partners after tenants reported seeing βsmall strange insectsβ crawling across picture frames, inside drawers, and on internal walls.
A full internal inspection and site survey was undertaken to accurately identify the issue and determine the underlying cause. During the survey, we confirmed the insects present were booklice (psocids).
Booklice are not caused by poor cleanliness and do not bite or pose a health risk. They are, however, a clear indicator of excess moisture within a property. In this case, activity was directly linked to damp and mould growth present on multiple internal walls, which provides an ideal food source and breeding environment for booklice.
Key Findings:
β’Booklice present on picture frames, within drawers, and across internal wall surfaces
β’Damp and mould identified in multiple locations
β’Elevated moisture levels creating favourable conditions for infestation
Professional Advice Issued:
A detailed report has been submitted to the estate agent today outlining that chemical treatment alone will not resolve the issue. The primary and most effective control measure is to rectify the damp and mould problems, including:
β’Addressing the source of moisture ingress
β’Improving ventilation and airflow
β’Reducing humidity levels within the property
