RENTAL INSPECTION UNCOVERS MOULD
As it's compulsory for all rental properties to have a Minimum Housing Standards inspection prior to being let, we're coming across a number of properties not compliant with the legislation.
There is a set criteria that a rental property must meet so a tenant can occupy the property. This makes it clearcut for the owner and or property manager to know if their property complies.
We check each criteria as we inspect the rental property. If any aspects of the property don’t meet the criteria, we take photos and document that then email the report.
In this particular rental property, there was mould on the garage door. Mould can create serious health issues for anyone who is in contact with it. Mould releases spores which can travel through air, water or on animals. It can spread from room to room.
Humidity and moisture contribute to the growth of mould. The garage door would be exposed to moisture and not being cleaned became an ideal place for mould to grow and spawn.
The garage door would need to be thoroughly cleaned and the garage too to prevent the spores from growing.
