BUILDING INSPECTION AS PART OF HOME MAINTENANCE
The majority of people think that a building inspection is only necessary when it comes to buying or selling a property.
We believe that it’s in your best interest to have a building inspection once you have well and truly settled into your property. Something along the lines of 7 -10 years.
That’s probably a long enough timeframe to become very familiar with your property and perhaps become ‘blind’ to seeing emerging faults.
The roof and roof cavity are a prime example. If nobody has had a poke around those spaces during that period, there’s a distinct possibility that there might be a cracked tile or some roof pointing that has deteriorated.
These minor defects could potentially allow minor roof leaks which over time can cause damage to the internal roof structure.
Another very common issue we encounter is the build up of gardens around the house and timber fences.
Gardens built up close to or blocking weep holes in brick homes can lead to a variety of issues. It can provide easy access to your home for termites.
Blocked weep holes can lead to a build up of moisture between the internal and external structures causing mould, mildew, and possible degradation of the integrity of the structure of the house.
Leaks in bathroom or laundry areas may not be apparent to you, but that is something we're able to identify.
