CREDENTIALS FOR A BUILDING INSPECTOR
Buying a property is a big decision. Part of the real estate buying journey is having the property inspected.
It’s important to choose the right Building Inspector. This is critical. You want to be assured that your potential new home is thoroughly inspected by someone experienced, licensed and insured.
You may only require the services of a licensed building inspector a few times across your life. So, how do you know who is a good building inspector?
Check that the Building Inspector is licensed. QBCC can verify if the license number provided by the inspector is valid and current.
Check that the inspector has professional indemnity insurance by requesting a certificate of currency.
Experience is important. How long has the building inspector been building or renovating homes?
A Member of the Master Builder’s Association indicates the inspector is a quality inspector.
Check reviews to see what others have shared about their experiences in dealing with a building inspector.
An experienced building inspector will provide a thorough report with photos detailing the aspects of the property that has been inspected noting any defects with explanations to the extent of the defects.
