BAD PLUMBING JOB

We like to think that nothing will shock us when we attend a Building and Pest Inspection. Looking at the structural damaged caused by a plumber installing a pipe was astounding.

We appreciate that plumbers aren’t structural engineers, but it doesn’t take Einstein to figure out that cutting into every floor joist will diminish the structural integrity of the floor being supported.

The owners had some renovations done and plumbing work was needed. Taking the easy route, the plumber simply hacked every floor joist to install the pipe.

His handiwork resulted in the owner having to install a steel beam to support the floor. We’re not privy to what conversations took place between the owner and the plumber regarding the remedy cost.

What we can suggest when looking for a plumber to engage for renovation work is to firstly check with QBCC if the plumber is licensed.

Research their online presence and peruse reviews to see if anyone has recorded bad experiences.

Ask friends, family or work colleagues if they have a plumber they have used and could recommend.

We highly recommend having a building inspection after renovations to ensure the work has been done to code. If remedial work needs to be carried out, the thorough inspection report will aid in your discussion with the tradesperson.
