We had our new lights for about two months now. We are using them every night for security lights and we also make sure we set a theme for any occasion we can think of lol. So far we did Mother's Day and Memorial Day, but the rainbow setting for Pride month was the best one yet, so colorful! Now we've got to come up with a color theme for Father's Day, these lights are so fun!
We did extensive research on lights and looked at Gemstone, Oelo and a bunch of other well reviewed options. Trimlight was the winner overall. The best price and the most responsive team. We found an open source app for other smart lights and liked that app better than Trimlight app, but all things considered Trimlight was still the winner. Trimlight app isn't the most intuitive and does crash at times, but it's not a major problem, we are just tech nerds who want everything to work perfectly at all times lol. Our light schedules are working just fine and generally we are able to adjust the settings to anything we need without any problems. We have multiple schedules going at a time. For example, we have security lights as a default from sunset to sunrise, but that gets overridden by the Pride month/rainbow setting from 8-11pm in June. The Pride month setting will then get overridden by Father's Day setting for one weekend and then for Juneteenth setting for one day. It's really an epic thing to play with.
Trimlight seems to be a good company overall, but just like most smart light companies, they have various dealers/installers who install their products. This review is specifically for Trimlight of North Jersey, Scott and Glenn team. We recommend researching the dealers/franchises in your area if you're not in NYC/NJ area and are not able to hire Scott and Glenn. There is also Trimlight NYC, their pricing is very different from Trimlight NJ and their service isn't very good at all. They seem to be a bigger business and have admins responding to their emails and calls, and honestly if that was our only option for Trimlight, we would've gone with another company. Trimlight NYC were not very responsive and didn't answer any questions we had and were overall kind of shady. I am glad we found Trimlight NJ because they not only answered our questions, they also let us come look at the lights they had installed on their houses and did a demo of how the lights worked. They were really an open book. We were worried the lights wouldn't be bright enough and wanted to see them in person, so a demo was really useful. We looked at the older Trimlight model and the newer/brighter 3L model. We went with 3L model, but we never had to use the lights at full brightness (at least not yet, as they've been pretty bright at about half the brightness for the settings/themes we tried so far). We do however have that brighter option if we ever need it, we will probably go brighter for Halloween and Christmas. So we highly recommend spending a bit more and going with the brighter 3L lights.
Overall, our experience with Trimlight NJ was great, they were the only team who went above and beyond. Most other companies were pretty much "we install the lights and then you're on your own if they break" because they were dealers/installers for multiple companies. Trimlight NJ only specializes in Trimlight, which is great. The installation team worked quickly and efficiently and cleaned up really well afterwards. They also showed us how the app worked and made sure any additional questions were answered before they left. They've also made themselves available to answer any questions after the installation and have a very good warranty for both the labor and materials.
Attaching a few photos - one photo of the installation process (they use ladders rather than cherry pickers to install, so installations can be done even in tight spaces), and a couple of photos of our lights from Mother's Day and Pride/rainbow setting. It's very hard to photograph the lights and they don't look as bright in photos as they do in real life, so, if you can, go look at some real-life examples.
