We were keen to visit Trendy Flooring having had it recommended by a contractor who was quoting for our hardwood floor installation. However, having read some reviews we were a little bit put off, particularly since the trip to Orpington was quite far. Nonetheless, we gave it a shot.
To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. There were a couple of reviews we read which spoke to the "youthfulness" of the customer service staff. On entering, this is immediately what we noticed. There were two behind the front desk who didn't seem all that occupied with walking the store and instead appeared more interested in their phones.
Having done some research, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted. We let the sales associate know these wants. Rather than offering suggestions or showing us specific examples of products that fit our needs, we were just directed to general areas where there might be options. This was quite different from what we had experienced in other showrooms where the salesperson would offer us very specific options that might work for us. Given that there were two sales associates, we thought that one could have stayed with us and helped us find what we wanted. No such luck.
We also found the QR code system quite clunky. Where other showrooms have all the details out and visible, for us to find out information about the product (depth, width, length, and particularly price), we had to scan a QR code. This spoke to a bit of a lack of transparency in our minds.
We also found the darkness of the warehouse a bit offputting and felt it did not give us a good sense of what the flooring might look like in the light of our home.
I have to add that my husband and I were both very put off by the presumptiveness of the person to whom we talked. In directing us to the products, they immediately told us that the "mid-range" options were in a specific area. We both look quite young, however, we think that assuming that we could only afford to buy mid-range floors was quite offensive.
If you're considering a trip out to Orpington from afar, I would think twice about coming the Trendy Flooring. If you know exactly what you want, are happy with looking at options yourself without help from anyone, and are okay with having to scan QR codes to get the information you're after, maybe this is for you. Luckily, if you're in the area and need a better experience, there's a pretty great option just two units over.
