If you have lost a loved one, we are first and foremost very sorry for your loss.
In the event of an unexpected death, say a car / motorbike accident or even at home or elsewhere, the ambulance must be your first call, followed by the police.
The police will then contact your loved one's doctor and ask the relevant questions about underlying circumstances that could have caused the death. If the doctor cannot be reached or states that there were no underlying circumstances, then the coroners contractor will be contacted. Whom at this present time is Morley's Funerals.
Please note that whomever holds the coroners contract is not the preferred funeral home, they are just a contractor for conveyancing purposes.
In the event a Form 9 (Cause of death) isn't issued by the doctor, then the coroners contractor should take your loved one to the Townsville University Hospital. If the Form 9 is to be issued, the coroners contractor can then take your loved one back to their funeral home (Morley's) and contact the family to make arrangements.
By doing this, it takes away the families choice of choosing their own funeral home.
Remember, you DO have the right to state where your loved one is taken!
If you're unsure on a funeral home, your loved one should be taken to the Townsville University Hospital where they will be cared for until you've made your choice.
