Are Your Trailer Lights Legal? Don't Get Caught Out!
Driving with illegal trailer lights can lead to hefty fines and put you and others at risk. Check out these crucial points to ensure your trailer is road-legal:
1. The Basics: All trailers must have stop lights, turn signals, tail lights, and reflectors. It's the law!
2. Narrow Trailers (Under 80 inches): Need two tail lights, two stoplights, two turn signals, a license plate light, rear and front side reflectors and marker lights. Smaller trailers (under 6 feet) have some exceptions.
3. Wide Trailers (80 inches or More): These require extra lighting, including clearance and rear identification lights. Boat trailers have specific dual-face light requirements.
4. Shorter Trailers (Under 30 feet): Also need clearance lights and conspicuity treatments in addition to the basics.
5. Bad Weather/Night Driving: Lights must be functional when towing in rain, fog, or at night.
Don't risk a ticket! Make sure your trailer lights are up to code.
