Some detectives make a loud, grating sound while they sleep. Although it is quite common, it may or may not be normal! 🦷 This nightly culprit, known as bruxism (fancy word for teeth grinding), is super common in toddlers and preschoolers and most kids outgrow it by age 6.
But why may the Mischievous Molar be sneaking around at night? Sometimes its more than just “normal” grinding. It could be a clue of teething, ear pain, airway/breathing issues or teeth that aren’t perfectly aligned. Stress and anxiety can crank up the volume too but it’s not a sign of a behavior problem.
Most of the time, these nightly grinds won’t harm your child’s smile but make sure to mention it at every dental check-up so your dentist can keep watch, particularly to ensure that your child’s overall orofacial development is progressing properly.
🔍 Detective Tip: A calm bedtime routine can help quiet the Mischievous Molar and keep little smiles safe!
