Pre-Renovation Damp & Timber Survey - Worcester Cottage
Recentley, our Cheltenham team carried out a full pre-renovation survey on a vacant 1900s solid brick cottage in Worcester. The property had been empty for some time and showed clear signs of moisture-related deterioration, both inside and out.
Our survey identified a range of issues including penetrating damp from defective roof tiles and guttering, spalled brickwork, raised external ground levels, high internal humidity, black mould and failed plaster. We also noted evidence of active woodworm in several structural areas.
The kitchen, pictured here, is one of the rooms most heavily affected—showing damaged finishes, moisture staining and general deterioration caused by prolonged damp conditions.
We provided the homeowner with a detailed, phased action plan to restore the property, improve ventilation, replace compromised flooring, carry out woodworm treatment, install new damp-proofing measures and address external defects.
A thorough pre-renovation survey ensures that hidden problems are uncovered early, helping homeowners avoid unexpected repair costs later in the project.
