Coyote Brush

IN THE GARDEN: This evergreen shrub grows 3-6' tall and matures in one to two years. Space 10-12' apart. Use this classic California shrub as an evergreen hedge pruned to shape or grow loosely with plants such as California rose, sticky monkey flower, or California sagebrush. Each bush is either male or female (diecious). The male flowers produce pollen and are yellowish, female flowers produce fruit and are white. Coyote bush can be used for restoration and erosion control projects. It improves cover for rabbits and other small mammals. It is also a larval host and will attract beneficial insects.
ECOLOGICAL VALUE: Attracts Butterflies, Bees, and Birds. Drought tolerant and Deer Resistant.
NATIVE DISTRIBUTION: Coyote bush is found all along the coast and inland to the Coast Ranges and the foothills of the Sierras (calscape.org).
