If you are serving as the executor of the estate of someone who has passed away, it is your job to resolve the legal and financial issues of the deceased person. One responsibility this includes is settling the tax obligations of the deceased and filing a final tax return on their behalf. Even if the deceased did not have a significant income when they died, a final return must be filed to resolve outstanding tax obligations and inform the IRS of the taxpayer’s death.
