One time during a reinspection a carrier's adjuster referred to public adjusters as having gone to "the dark side". I have since figured out why she said this. It because public adjuster act outside of the carriers "guidelines." Carriers have certain rules and customs that are found nowhere in the policy. They have preconceived biases that you are completely unaware of and never knew that you were going to be a part of when you purchased your policy. A public adjuster has no guideline except the policy itself: the contract you agreed to when insuring your property. So when the carrier's adjuster says that they will not pay for certain items the policy clearly shows coverage for, and a public adjuster points out they are not adhering to the policy, then the real dark side will be the bottom of their feet being held to the fire.
