I recently had a disappointing experience at "Sunnyside dentistry for children". The dental care itself was adequate but the communication from the office manager and staff were very poor, which made the entire visit frustrating. Before my son's appointment I tried several times to confirm details about treatment and insurance coverage remaining on my plan for the year, but I received unclear or delayed responses from the dental office.
I was told that I still had benefits (i.e. "credit") left on my coverage plan for the year, so we had some work done that could have waited until the new year. Later, my insurance company said we'd used all our coverage and that we'd need to pay out of pocket.
When I approached the dental office, they informed me that, while they had checked to see that I had coverage left, they had not run a full report, and therefore didn't see that I had payments/claims pending (from previous appts).
When I expressed concern that they'd told me I had coverage remaining when, in fact, I didn't, they said it was my responsibility to track it and to ask them for the detailed report. As it turns out, they hadn't billed my insurer for work done months before; it's their policy to often times wait and bill later. Because of this, it looked like I had coverage remaining, when in fact, they just hadn't billed my insurer for work done well before this date.
Manager Kerri seemed dismissive rather than helpful in resolving the issue. As a parent, I value clear communication and professionalism, especially given how quickly costs can add up for children's services. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unheard and dissatisfied. I hope the office can improve communication and training for staff, so future patients don't encounter the same issues. We paid out of pocket bill and left this office.
