For the seventh year in a row, thousands of local retailers will participate in an alternative campaign to Black Friday, known as Plaid Friday. Started in 2008 in Oakland, Calif., Plaid Friday encourages consumers to put their holiday gift dollars back into the local economy by shopping at stores in their own communities.
