Extremely Overpriced and Unprofessional
We had Storm Appliances send a technician to our rental property for a refrigerator that was leaking from the water hose—a problem we had already identified before the visit.
The technician, Nick, confirmed the leak after pulling the refrigerator out. He then quoted $500 to repair it. My girlfriend explained that this was nearly the cost of a new refrigerator and said she needed time to think about it. After that, the technician strongly pushed her to move forward with the repair, saying the refrigerator was “really nice,” which felt uncomfortable and sales-driven.
When she asked follow-up questions—such as what specific part needed to be replaced—he avoided answering and quickly pushed the refrigerator back into place, preventing her from seeing any details. She ultimately declined the repair and told him she would call back if we decided to proceed.
After he left, she pulled the refrigerator out herself, located the serial number, and confirmed the exact part we already suspected was faulty. The replacement part cost $23.
We then hired a handyman (who does not specialize in appliance repair) who watched a YouTube video and replaced the part without issue. He charged $50 for labor.
Total repair cost: $73.
Storm Appliances charged us $85 just for the service call, and quoted $500 for a repair that required a $23 part.
I contacted the company to discuss this. The receptionist said the owner was out of town and would call me back—this never happened. The only explanation given was that their parts come with a 3-month warranty, which does not justify a nearly $400 markup on a widely available part.
This experience felt misleading and predatory, especially toward someone asking reasonable questions. I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before using this company.
