End of Summer Maintenance Tips for Homeowners
End-of-Summer Home Maintenance Checklist
Georgia’s summer heat, humidity, and thunderstorms can take a toll on your home. As we move toward fall, a few seasonal maintenance steps can help protect your property and avoid costly repairs.
Start with your HVAC system. After months of keeping your home cool, your air conditioning unit deserves attention. Replace filters, inspect ductwork, and consider a professional tune-up to keep the system running efficiently — and to give future buyers confidence.
Check your gutters. Summer storms often fill them with leaves and debris, which can cause water to pool near your foundation. Clear them out and make sure downspouts are directing water several feet from your home.
Refresh your landscaping. Trim back overgrown shrubs and tree branches, remove dead plants, and add fresh mulch. Seasonal flowers like mums or pansies can add a welcoming pop of color for the new season.
Inspect your roof. Look for missing or damaged shingles, and check the flashing around chimneys and vents. Catching small problems now can prevent leaks during fall rains.
Seal your windows and doors. Replace worn weatherstripping and caulk small gaps to improve comfort and lower energy bills.
Give your exterior a wash. Pressure wash siding, decks, patios, and driveways to remove dirt and mildew — a quick, inexpensive way to make your home look its best.
