Typically I’m not one to write bad reviews but the experience I had with this service was so odd to me, I had to share. I used Steampunk House Cleaning for a move in cleaning service at a new apartment. I had nothing moved in yet except my internet cable box and a few jackets in the coat closet so it was a completely open slate. The woman who came to clean was very nice when I greeted her. I had told her I wanted everything cleaned so it would be fresh when I moved in the following weekend. She made it seem as though she understood, so I was excited to see the results. She told me it would take 5 hours and I decided to leave to give her space to work and decided I’d be back a little before then to see her off. Right before I left, she took her supplies and said “I’ll start in the bathroom”. I returned not long before the 5-hour mark, fully expecting to greet her so I can thank her and tip her in cash, but when I arrived she had locked up and had left already. Upon walking in, I noticed it smelled as though it was cleaned. Kind of like that smell of a freshly mopped floor. I went immediately to the bathroom but was completely left confused a frankly grossed out by how it looked. Not only was it not cleaned, she used the restroom (only number 1) and didn’t flush… After I flushed I noticed there was toilet didn’t look clean at all. There were splattered stains within the bowl which left me extremely confused. After seeing that I decided to check the sink counter and it was clearly not wiped down. It only left me with so many questions on if she actually cleaned the place or not. I called the people who scheduled the appointment and told them that the cleaner was gone and it didn’t look like she cleaned even though it oddly smelled like it was? It was the most bizarre thing. They let me know that the cleaner was supposed to be there to do a final walk through at the end as well, but clearly that didn’t happen. They had offered to have them come back the next day but I said no because they had 5 hours do it that day and couldn’t do the most basic cleaning. Oddly they didn’t offer any sort of refund upfront for this, I had to ask for it myself, and they gave me 15% refund for that area. Overall, the service was strange and I ultimately did my own scrub of the whole bathroom because I was pretty grossed out with the overall experience. Everything else seemed to be fine, but it was hard to fully know, given that the dirtiest room that I could truly measure cleanliness of was the bathroom and it didn’t not pass.

I’m devastated to leave a bad review, but my experience with this cleaning service was truly disappointing and I feel it’s important to share. First, the quality of the cleaning itself was far below any reasonable standard. It was a deep clean projected to take 9 hours. I walked into my space to find fingernails left behind — which were 10000000% not mine. In multiple spaces. This alone is unhygienic and frankly appalling. The areas that were supposedly “completed” looked less than satisfactory, with visible dust, residue, and a general lack of attention to detail. I expressed that their staff didn’t use cleaning products in areas. One lady spent roughly 3 hours in a single bathroom alone. I was thinking, wow, it will be completely transformed when she was done… To make matters worse, much of the work I was paying for was not even touched. Due to a power outage, several major areas were left incomplete — entire kitchen,oven, living room, dining, stairs, loft, entire house vacuuming/mopping, rubbish removal, 6 windows, and more. While I understand and didn’t want to continue, it is unacceptable to charge for services that were not provided. I wasn’t aware they would charge for a full service. When I raised these concerns, instead of immediately addressing the evidence without question. the owner responded by saying they weren’t making a profit and had a responsibility to pay their staff. While I empathize with that reality, a business also has a responsibility to provide their team with proper cleaning supplies, a detailed checklist, and standards of quality. The burden should not be shifted onto the customer. I eventually received a partial refund, but only after painstaking negotiation. I was left feeling disregarded, dismissed, and taken advantage of, rather than valued as a client. After the partial refund I paid 190 for the partial below average standard finger nail drop service. no deep clean was ever provided. In short: the service was substandard, the communication was defensive rather than constructive, and accountability was lacking. I cannot in good conscience recommend this company to others. Photos are after 3 hours in one bathroom 🧽 , owners have video evidence walkthrough + raw reaction of me finding multiple fingernails . My nails don’t grow so I have acrylics that are red and the size of a bloody 8 year old.
