A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury produced by a blow to the head or shaking of the body (direct hit on the head or loss of consciousness is not necessary). Headaches, weariness, difficulty with balance, coordination, impaired vision, memory issues, anxiety, depression, and personality changes are all possible symptoms. MRIs and CT scans often reveal no evidence of concussion. However, if you experience these symptoms, you should see a Neurologist. A new frontier has emerged. We offer sophisticated neurological tests for objectively detecting and evaluating a concussion. Several of the tests enable neurologists, and therapists to see the injury and aid in detecting brain damage. It also enables lawyers and disability rating professionals to ascertain the organic basis of subjective complaints. The following assessments are part of the objective testing: 1. Videonystagmography to assess the oculomotor system (VNG) 2. Coordination and balance by posturography 3. Memory and neurocognitive assessment (attention, problem solving skills, others). 4. EEG neuroimaging 5. Advanced imaging such as DTI or SPECT scans. These tests, when combined, offer neurologists and rehabilitation professionals with an objective diagnosis of the underlying cause of the symptoms. This also enables neurologists to make an accurate diagnosis and the formulation of a solid rehabilitation plan for the patient.
