I took a little ride around Kata Beach this morning, two days after the "Great Landslide of 2024." It was a beautiful morning but looks like it's going to rain again this afternoon.
One of our places had to close for half a day while we cleaned up after the small flood but the other two restaurants stayed open. We were lucky. Others not so much. But the good news is resilient Phuketians banded together to get food and supplies to the vicitims who were hurt or lost their places to live. Donations are still being accepted at Kata temple but you may want to check to what they need before you come over. I think most basics have been donated.
They've got the southern part of the beach road closed off due to the seawall being knocked out near the Surf House and government offices. It should be all fixed pretty quickly, they are digging the damage out. Traffic is one-way along the beach road so if you're in a car, please avoid that area.
It's quieted down this week though there seem to be plenty of visitors still around. The beach in Kata was pretty full and the surf instructors were quite busy. Waves are small but rideable.
