Removed a yellow jacket nest from the eaves of a home in Lynden this week. By this point in the summer these nests are well established and the colony is at full size, this one had been growing since spring.
Exterminated the colony and pulled the nest out completely.
One thing most people don't know about yellow jackets: unlike honeybees, they can sting multiple times and get more aggressive as the season goes on. Late summer is when we get the most calls because colonies are at peak population and they're highly defensive of the nest.
If you're seeing yellow jacket activity around your roofline or eaves in Whatcom County, sooner is better. They get harder to deal with as the summer goes on.
