Got called out to a Bellingham home this week where yellow jackets were getting into the soffits and eaves. Found several nests tucked up in there once we got a closer look.
Treated with a slow-acting non-repellent spray so the workers carry it back into the colony before they realize anything is wrong, then scraped out the visible nests. That combination is a lot more effective than a repellent spray, which just scatters them and pushes the problem somewhere else.
Yellow jackets are aggressive this time of year and soffits are one of their favorite spots in Whatcom County. The gap between the fascia and roofline gives them a protected void that's hard to spot from the ground.
If you're seeing yellow jacket activity around your roofline, don't wait on it. They'll defend that void hard by late summer.
