🚨 Mississippi Landowners: Know the Truth About “EU Deforestation” Claims🌲

We’re seeing mills and buyers asking landowners to sign new paperwork tied to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Here’s what actually matters — and what doesn’t.

First: this is NOT deforestation.
A legal, rotational timber harvest conducted under Mississippi Best Management Practices (BMPs) — with protected SMZs, controlled roads, and regeneration — is sustainable forestry. Period.

What the EUDR really does:
The EUDR applies to companies importing wood products into the European Union, not private landowners in Mississippi. Its purpose is to prevent wood sourced from land permanently converted from forest to non-forest use after December 31, 2020.

What landowners need to know:
✔️ Clearcutting followed by regeneration is not deforestation
✔️ The EU has no authority over private land use in Mississippi
✔️ Mill certifications are contractual risk tools — not law
❌ Do not agree to mandatory replanting, penalties, or future land-use restrictions

Safe certification language:
“Timber was harvested from forestland existing prior to December 31, 2020, in compliance with state BMPs. No representation is made regarding future land use after harvest.”

Bottom line:
Mississippi forests are renewable, working forests. Certify facts that exist at the time of harvest only.
