A treadmill test (TMT) or cardiac stress test helps determine how far your heart can go before an abnormal rhythm or blood flow to the heart muscle drops. It helps your doctor know how your heart responds on being pushed. You will be asked to walk on a treadmill, and the difficulty level will be gradually increased.
What if TMT test is positive?
Positive test means patients ECG is showing changes of angina (lack of adequate blood supply to heart) after workload. It means patient is suffering from ischemic heart disease.
When should we do TMT test?
It can be ordered for people who have been experiencing chest pains or other symptoms of coronary heart disease (also called coronary artery disease). An exercise stress test may also be used to help determine your level of health, especially if you are starting a new exercise program.
