Here are the top five important questions to ask an employment agency:
1. What types of helpers do they have? - There are transfer helpers who are currently in Singapore looking for a new employer. Ex-Singapore helpers who worked in Singapore before but are currently in their home country or not in Singapore. New Helpers are those helpers who have no experience as a helper or have little experience in their home country. Ex-abroad helpers are helpers who are new to Singapore but experienced abroad.
2. What is the cost of the services? – Cost of services like Agency fees, miscellaneous/admin fees, medical examination fees, overseas processing fees, etc. Employers need to make sure that these fees are clear and no other hidden fees before signing a contract or hiring a helper.
3. Nationalities of the helpers and the processing time.
4. What is the agency's policy on refunds and replacements? – From the Ministry of Manpower website – “From 1 June 2022, employment agencies must refund at least 50% of the service fees paid by the employer; if the MDW’s employment is terminated within the first six months of employment, and other refund conditions are met.”
5. What is the agency's policy regarding communication and support? - It is important to understand how the agency will support your needs. Ask about their customer service policies and availability. You should also inquire about their process for handling any issues that may arise.
