Who can hire a Foreign Domestic Worker?
All Singapore citizens, Permanent Residents and expatriates who hold a valid employment or work pass may hire an FDW. You are required to have a valid reason to employing an FDW. Employers who are expatriates also need to declare that their family members are living with them at the point of application. All applications are subject to the approval of the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
What is the current levy?
Employers are required to pay a monthly levy of S$265 (normal) or $8.72 per day.
On the other hand, employers are only required to pay a monthly concessionary rate of S$60 if they have young children below 12, elderly above 65 years old or person with disability staying in the same residence.
Can I claim tax relief for maid levy?
a. You are a married woman and have elected for separate assessment;
b. You are married and your husband is not resident in Singapore;
c. You are separated, divorced or widowed and living with your unmarried child.
The relief is two times the amount of maid levy paid for one maid. It can only be set off against the earned income of the wife. Single taxpayers are not eligible for this relief. You can get the relief even if the levy is paid by the husband.
