This Sunday daylight savings time ends. We all gain an hour of sleep (go us) and it’s also a perfect reminder to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors. Most manufactures recommend replacing the barratries in your home smoke detectors at least once a year. And the NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) recommends replacing all the smoke detectors in your home at least every 10 years from the date of manufacture. Most homes built in the last 30 years were built with “hardwired” detectors that are connected to your home electrical system, these units should also be interconnected, meaning when one unit alarms they all do. Changing these unit is a relatively simple task and most home owners can do it themselves, but as with anything connected to your electrical system there is a disc of shock. If you are replacing smoke detectors it is recommended that you replace at least one inside your house and one in your garage with a combination smoke/carbon dioxide detector. If you need help replacing your smoke detectors you can give us a call and we will be happy to help you out.
Remember, change the batteries and enjoy the extra sleep.
