The state of Massachusetts has recently issued a warning about garage door scams in the Boston area, targeting unsuspecting customers. These fraudulent services have websites that look legitimate, but are often very generic, and they falsely claim to be, “local businesses“ while using deceptive tactics to avoid detection. These so-called company’s started to appear in the bay state in about 2014. They have many different names and claim to be garage doors, locks, and gates.
They even claimed to have hundreds if not thousands of five star reviews online! The way to find the truth behind the reviews is to research the reviewer who left the review. You’ll find that they may not be local either.
We found that one of the best ways to identify the scammers is by setting up an appointment to go visit them at their business location. You will find that they will more than likely claim that the location is, “under construction” or that they are a “traveling business only”
Another signature sign to look out for is, their claim to being the cheapest company to do business with! Often times they price their service call fees at ranges from $19-$59.
We could go on and on about what is happening behind the scenes with these criminals posing as garage door companies. However, we are going to leave you a link to the Massachusetts state website that will explain more about the states investigation that is underway in to this criminal element.
Good luck and be safe!
