Home renovation can be a daunting process, but it doesn’t have to compromise the quality of your flooring. If you want to keep your floor in good condition for years to come, here are some tips on protecting them during construction:
- Even if you're not planning a full home remodeling project, make sure that any renovations or projects don't disturb the ground beneath your floors. This will help prevent water and other liquids from seeping up into the cracks and causing damage over time.
- Place protection mats at high traffic areas like doorways so dirt and debris won't get tracked onto your flooring when people walk through. You may also want to place these mats around rooms where work is being done so you can easily sweep up any messes without leaving a trail on your floor.
- If you have carpeting, make sure to cover the perimeter where workers are working with temporary mats or plastic sheeting so they don't track dirt onto it. Check in with them about how often this needs to be changed and replace as necessary.
- Lay down floor cardboards over carpeting or other floorings to create a makeshift walkway for workers. This will keep them from walking on your floors and cause any dirt or paint they track in to be easily swept up.
