I don't leave reviews usually but after my experience I felt the need. SD Mayer made my life hell for six months. I hired them and they completely screwed up my books. Mind you my books were already screwed up which is why I hired them, but they became way worse once SD Mayer came on board. I managed to straighten out the original books in about 6 weeks. What was done to them after we brought SD Mayer on took me 6 months to correct. When I told them what they had done, I was told to concatenate (Google it if you don't know). So you know, I'm not an accountant, and definitely not a controller. I am clever though, and I did hire them to teach me how to be a controller for my small business. However I didn't expect that after 5 months of teaching, I would be left with a database in shambles, a looming tax deadline, and employees that no longer respected me, but hell, I love a challenge. Over the next 6 months, after I was told to concatenate, if I reached out with a question about a transaction they put in my system I always received the same type of answer "I don't know" or "I didn't do that" or "Sometimes we do that.....". The transactions are literally timestamped with there user credentials. In the end, I was told it's my systems fault. To which I say, a poor craftsmen blames his tools. Hopefully my experience is an exception, because I wouldn't wish what I went through over that 6 months on anyone. However, to be fair, I am capable of handling the controller duties now. So if your a sadist and want to become a controller, give SD Mayer a call, but make sure you ask for the "Ivan" course. Otherwise they may just help you, and not make your life a living hell. I've been trusting Seth and his team for the past 3 years and I couldn't be more pleased with their work. I always feel heard and taken care of and know my data is being handled professionally and promptly.

I don't know if communication was lost or never sent, but multiple requirements of us were never received - including the cutoff date for submitting our information - which caused us to miss filing on time and requiring an extension. When asked, we were told that information was provided, but I could not (and still can not) find that information anywhere. We didn't realize we were after the cutoff date until we reached out to ask about the status. After learning that we needed an extension, multiple dates were given for when our taxes would be filed. When dates were missed, we again had to reach out for clarification and a new timeline.

SEVERAL emails and phone calls never returned. FTB sent letter re: error on my 2020 tax return. Called your firm to handle the response. NO return calls from Michael Kim or any other rep. I had to resolve the issue myself. DEPLORABLE customer service.

Stay away. It should have been a sign to walk away when they spelled my wife's name wrong 10 times, and thought email addresses had two @s in them. They aren't prompt with responses and when they respond, it's poorly worded and unclear. They continue to make mistakes in your filings which needs to be pointed out to them, no acceptance of their mistakes either. The kicker is their billing practices, where there seems to be always an extra bill or two than what you expected. They are not upfront with their billing practices.

Bad service, slow, expensive, not responsive. Posterior accounting firm found mistakes in research we payed hundreds for. Weeks without getting a response.
