SHOULD I APPOINT CO-EXECUTORS ?
Many Wills name co-executors so both have equal powers and decision making has to be unanimous or joint. This creation of a committee instead of a single executor with a backup or alternate is often done by parents using their adult children because they do not want to choose between their children.
However forcing this cooperation by siblings often leads to disputes for a variety of reasons including a lack of trust or one sibling ends up doing all the work simply because they are close to the family home.
Unless problems can be prevented with detailed instructions, it is usually better to name one person to be the executor, who is honest and reliable, then another person as the alternate.
