Recently I attended a musical stage adaption of the Scrooge Christmas story. Not only was it a musical but the location of the story was set not in London, England but in the small rural town where Dolly Parton grew up - who also provided the music !
Not was the play well done but it was very creative eg they had live musicians on stage in the back who also had small parts in the play including one of the ghosts while she played her violin.
Adapting the Scrooge story not just to be a stage musical but in a small rural Southern town reminded us that the story and moral message was universal - the message applies everywhere in any decade.
I understand that the Arts Club in Vancouver, BC chose this Dolly Parton musical version of the timeless Christmas Carol as its first production since the Covid close down - it was a great choice!
It is unfortunate Omicron is so contagious. If you can, support the arts and go see the Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol which was scheduled to be on until 2 January, you will enjoy it !
In any event, support the arts - especially the Arts Club which has many talented actors, who provide needed laughs.
