Most people know how popular porn is but unfortunately "Revenge Porn" has become a problem for many people. Revenge porn is when where "intimate images" are posted to the internet by ex-lovers without permission.
Posting publicly intimate images can be related to cyberbullying, invasion of privacy, assault, libel, intentional damage to reputation, etc, with long-term effects now known including suicide.
Until recently, the limited solutions were either to convince the police to investigate a possible crime or to spend the money serving the wrongdoer with a civil claim if one could prove a legal wrong was done. If the police report to Crown Counsel that there has been a crime under the criminal code eg CCC 162.1 then a criminal conviction could bring a possible penalty of up to five years in jail. A civil claim, suing in court for an order to solve the problem, can be daunting for most people.
Now in British Columbia, in addition to complaining to the police, you have the additional civil claim option of using the much easier civil complaint process called the CRT - the Civil Resolution Tribunal.
Further, the CRT website not only gives you an easier complaint process, especially for young people on their own, but the CRT website also gives you links to BC support resources such as Victim Services: https://civilresolutionbc.ca/solution-explorer/intimate-images/
