The BC government announced the expansion of their free BC Child Support Calculation Service. More BC residents with a BC court order or Agreement involving child support can now use this free service to re-calculate annually the child support payable without going back to court.
Most people know about the free enforcement service known as FMEP but this enforcement service cannot change the amount payable.
Now many BC Guardians or parents can register their BC order or agreement with this re-calculation service to have the amount payable changed annually for free without a further court application.
Until there is a further expansion, to qualify to use this free service both parents must be BC residents and have a BC court or Agreement so if you do not qualify then you must still apply to the Court for a new Order or make a new Agreement.
Further, if your current order or agreement is missing the point you want added eg for horseback lessons to now be a shared special expense then this free service might not be able to add it - you would then need to apply to the court if both parents do not agree.
Mediation is available to help parents make agreements, and there is a free online mediation service for limited issues.
We support mediated solutions for all disputes especially disputes involving families.
