The frequency of road accidents involving pedestrians is concerningly high, its fatality rate has been increasing over the years. But you might ask, what is a pedestrian? A pedestrian can be anybody, even us, as they are any person on foot, walking, running, jogging, hiking, or sitting on the road. When a pedestrian is hit by an automobile, the results can be catastrophic. Another related statistic regarding pedestrians is that pedestrian deaths rose a troubling 77% between 2010 and 2021, compared to a 25% rise in all other traffic fatalities. It is a given that drivers have to exercise their utmost care on the road to avoid crashing into other drivers and into pedestrians. However, there are many instances of accidents that are primarily caused by the pedestrians themselves. These acts may include
• Crossing the road when a traffic signal states not to so do.
• Jaywalking.
• Highways and intersection crossing
