Despite the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution, state laws severely restrict who may own firearms and under what circumstances. Some firearms are per se illegal in the eyes of the law. According to Connecticut General Statute § 53a-211 it is a class D felony for any person to possess a sawed-off shotgun or a silencer that may muffle the sound of a firearm.
