It’s Tick awareness week. What do you need to be aware of?
1) Tick size – Most people are aware of the size of an adult tick (think watermelon seed). Be aware that developing ticks can be poppy seed size.
2) They transmit more than just Lyme’s disease – There are more than 20 tick borne diseases in the US.
3) Habitat – Ticks aren’t just off in the deep woods. They can live in your yard.
4) Multistage disease transmitters – not only adults transmit pathogens. Adolescent ticks do as well.
5) Hitchhikers – Despite their short legs, ticks can move quickly. They dangle from plants and land on passing animals or grab hold and go for a ride. This allows them to get into unexpected areas.
Tick season is here. Protect yourself and your beloved children, pets, and customers for those that run businesses. Inspect frequently; make it a habit. Have a rodent control system in place to reduce hitchhikers. Implement a tick treatment protocol With Rove Pest Control.
